Āsavapañhā Sutta
Jambhukhādaka:
“Friend Sāriputta, I hear people say:
‘The currents, the currents.’
What are these currents?”
Ven. Sāriputta:
There are these three currents, friend:
The current of the senses;
The current of identity;
The current of lacking discernment.[1]
Jambhukhādaka:
“But is there a path, a practice to let go of these currents?”[2]
Ven. Sāriputta: “There is, friend.”
Jambhukhādaka: “What is it?”
Ven. Sāriputta:
“The eight-spoked path of the awakened ones is
for letting go of these currents, that is:
Wise perspective,
wise intention,
wise speech,
wise action,
wise livelihood,
wise practice,
wise awareness,
wise meditation.”
Jambhukhādaka:
“It is an auspicious path,
an auspicious practice for the letting go of the currents.
And it is suitable for living mindfully.”[3]
