Accharāsaṅghāta Sutta

 

53. Practicing Love for a Finger snap 

 

“If even for the time of a finger snap, 

A monk or nun practices with a mind of Love [1] 

 

I say that they live, practicing jhāna, [2] 

that they practice the teacher’s teaching,

that they apply his instructions,

And they eat the country’s alms undeluded. [3]

What to say then of one who would cultivate it. [4]

 

 

54. Developing Love for a Finger snap

 

“If even for the time of a finger snap, bhikkhus

A monk or nun develops a mind of Love, [5]

 

I say that they live, practicing jhāna,

that they practice the teacher’s teaching,

that they apply his instructions,

And they eat the country’s alms undeluded.

What to say then of one who would cultivate it.”

 

 

55. Attending with Love for a Finger snap

 

“If even for the time of a finger snap, 

A monk or nun attends with a mind of Love, [6]

 

I say that they live, practicing jhāna,

that they practice the teacher’s teaching,

that they apply his instructions,

And they eat the country’s alms undeluded.”

What to say then of one who would cultivate it.”

 


[1] Āsevati [ā + sev] to frequent, visit; to practise, pursue, indulge, enjoy

[2] Arittajjhāno: Aritta: a rudder. Or Ritta [pp. of riñcati; cp. atireka] devoid, empty, free, rid.

[3] Satthusāsanakaro Ovādapatikaro Amoghaṃ raṭṭhapiṇḍaṃ bhuñjati’.

[4] Ko pana vādo ye naṃ bahulīkarontī

[5] Bhāveti

[6] Manasi karoti
