8. Defilements vs. Samādhi

There are [many] things that we can do to get our minds to gravitates more and more towards uplifted states, which is… the Buddha’s Teaching… on meditation.

 

That’s what the Buddha taught.

 

When you read meditation instructions from the Buddha, especially to the laity and people that are beginning in the practice, that’s all he talks about:

 

Uplifting the mind,

gladdening the mind,

bringing the joy back:

and that sheds all defilements.

 

That helps the mind get collected.

Abandoning defilements and collectedness is the same thing.

It means the same thing.

 

When there are no more defilements,

what is left is… samādhi.

 

So that’s really easy to understand.
