Anicca Khandhas and the River Flows

Anicca Khandhas and the River Flows

Part of a guided meditation on impermanence:

“Like looking at a river.

Might seem like some parts

of the river are fairly stable–

some shapes, the water

going around a rock,

some kind of V-lines

that the current is making,

but the reality is that, that river

is just continually passing.

So too are forms.

Anything felt or experienced;

            sensations.

Anything that is cognized through memory

or conceptualizations–

            arising and passing away.

Any active fabricating,

manufacturing or propagating,

or proliferating of thoughts–

            Sankhāra.

And even Awareness–

            passing, passing.”

Smiling, not holding.
