Thag 6.3 Mahānāga – Respect for Kaliyāna Mittās

“Those who do not foster respect

for their fellow practitioners in the spiritual life

They wither away from the good Dhamma, 1

They are like a fish in shallow waters.

Those who do not foster respect

for their fellow practitioners in the spiritual life

They do not grow in the good Dhamma,

like a field sown with rotten seeds. 2

Those who do not foster respect

for their fellow practitioners in the spiritual life

They are far from Nibbāna,

and the instruction of the King of Dhamma. 3

Those who do foster respect

for their fellow practitioners in the spiritual life

They thrive in the good Dhamma

They are like a fish in deep waters.

Those who do foster respect

for their fellow practitioners in the spiritual life,

They grow in the Good Dhamma

like a field sown with promising seeds.

Those who do foster respect

for their fellow practitioners in the spiritual life,

They are close to Nibbāna,

and the instructions of the King of Dhamma.”

1 “Yassa sabrahmacārīsu, gāravo nūpalabbhati; Parihāyati saddhammā,

2 Na virūhati saddhamme, khette bījaṁva pūtikaṁ.

3 Ārakā hoti nibbānā, dhammarājassa sāsane.

This is a gift of Dhamma
