Thag 6.2 Tekicchakāri – Blissful Recollections

[Māra]

“The fields have been harvested,

and the rice threshed,

But you are not getting any alms

what are you going to do?”

[Elder Tekicchakāri]

“Remembering the vastness of the Buddha

           with a confident mind,

          I will drench this body in bliss,

                  continually uplifted; 1

Remembering the vastness of the Dhamma

           with a confident mind,

          I will drench this body in bliss,

                  continually uplifted;

Remembering the vastness of the Saṅgha

          with a confident mind,

         I will drench this body in bliss,

                 continually uplifted.”

[Māra]

“Meditating under the open sky

during the cold winter nights

Do not get afflicted by the cold,

Go to some dwelling and lock the bolt.”

[Elder Tekicchakāri]

“I will lock myself in the four measureless states,

These will be my happy dwelling, 2

I am not afflicted by the cold,

As I dwell, unshaken.” 3

1 “Buddhamappameyyaṁ anussara pasanno, Pītiyā phuṭasarīro hohisi satatamudaggo.

2 “Phusissaṁ catasso appamaññāyo, Tāhi ca sukhito viharissaṁ;

3 Nāhaṁ sītena vihaññissaṁ, Aniñjito viharanto”ti. Surely, this is not in relation to Canadian winters but Indian ‘winter’. Nevertheless uplifting and inspiring.

This is a gift of Dhamma
