AN 6.95 Impossible for One Who Sees (4)

Catutthaabhabbaṭṭhāna Sutta

“Monks, six things are impossible.

What are they?

It is impossible for one who sees [the Dhamma]

to revert back to the opinion that:

(1) Pleasure and pain are created by oneself; [1]

(2) Pleasure and pain are created by others;

(3) Pleasure and pain are created by oneself and others;

(4) Pleasure and pain arise by chance

and are not created by oneself,  [2]

(5) Pleasure and pain arise by chance

and are not created by others,

(6) Pleasure and pain arise by chance

and are not created neither by oneself nor by others,

What is the reason for that?

Monks, those who have arrived at [wise] understanding

see the cause very clearly,

and the mental states that arise from it.

Monks, these six things are impossible.

[1] sayaṅkataṁ sukhadukkhaṁ paccāgantuṁ,

[2] asayaṅkāraṁ adhiccasamuppannaṁ sukhadukkhaṁ paccāgantuṁ; We find here an interesting opposition to the law of causality or dependent origination Paṭiccasamuppāda and its opposite, independent origination adhiccasamuppāda.
