AN 6.104 Unlimited Perception of Selflessness

Atammaya Sutta

“Monks, considering six benefits, it is enough

to make the perception of selflessness towards all mental activities

established and unlimited.”

What six?

(1) I will not take anything in the world as mine or myself; [1]

(2) Taking things as “I” will be put to an end;

(3) Taking things as “mine” will be put to an end; [2]

(4) I will come to possess knowledge not understood by many;

(5) I will see and understand the cause very clearly;

(6) Along with the states that arise from that cause. [3]

“Monks, considering these six benefits, it is enough

to make the perception of selflessness towards all mental activities

established and unlimited.”

[1] Sabbaloke ca atammayo bhavissāmi,

[2] ahaṅkārā ca me uparujjhissanti, mamaṅkārā ca me uparujjhissanti,

[3] hetu ca me sudiṭṭho bhavissati, hetusamuppannā ca dhammā. The second and the first understandings of the Ariyas, in respective order. The sense of self being the island, the field, the support, for all that arises. All arise from that one cause, “I”… Who?

This is a gift of Dhamma
